Vice Chairman — Information Commission
COMMISSIONER JOHN CHARLES NJIE has a cumulative work experience of over 28 years, 25 being with the Civil Society in The Gambia. He was Vice Chairman of the National Technical Committee on Transitional Justice as the Civil Society Representative. He is the founder and National Coordinator of the CSO Transitional Justice Working Group, a body set up for effective CSO coordination and input in the Transitional Justice process. In 2019 he was the Chief Mediator between the Government and the ‘Three Years Jotna Protesters’, a tense period, with the potential for civil unrest, that was successfully deescalated. He served as Chairman of the CSO Coalition on Access to Information and a founding member of CSO Coalition on Elections, with over twenty-five years Election Observation experience. Mr. Njie hosted for the renowned radio Talk Show, “Straight Talk” from 2019 – 2023 and now host of the jcnjie-the Voice, podcast. He was Chairman of The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations, TANGO, from 2017 – 2023 and has contributed immensely to The Gambia’s Transitional Justice Process. He recently ended his long tenure of service with the Gambia YMCA as the Executive Director, where he mentored, motivated and inspired hundreds of Young People. He now serves as Vice Chairman of the recently established Information Commission.
